Tryouts will last ten minutes. Please prepare the following:
1. One five-minute closing argument on a fictitious case of your choice. We prefer no notes during your closing. This part of the tryout is designed to evaluate your presentation, argumentation and creativity skills. Some of our favorite closings in the past include: prosecuting Snow White for polygamy, defending Tinker Bell for the use of an illegal narcotic (Pixie Dust), Harry Potter suing Voldemort's estate for emotional and mental damages, etc.
2. Select one of the affidavits (witness statements) below and learn it. You will be cross-examined by one of our members to evaluate your skills as a witness and your ability to think on your feet. On Texas Mock Trial, you will be an attorney and a witness, so it is important for you to learn a set of facts and be able to answer questions on the spot. Again, we encourage prospective members to get creative.
3. Also please bring a filled out tryout info sheet to your tryout.
Tryout Locations are as follows:
Thursday, September 14, Sánchez 370
Friday, September 15, Parlin 301
Saturday, September 16, UTC 1.132
Please arrive promptly and at your designated tryout slot. We look forward to seeing you there!
